Mobile suits are piloted by people, who go into the cockpit and manually control it. Some people who have taken the Alaya Vijnana Surgery, have their spinal cord connected to the controls, giving them better reactions, and understanding of the mobile suit. However, those who fail the surgery are left crippled, and often die within 2 years of the failed surgery. The surgery has a 60% success rate, and often has to be done before the age of 15. Image taken from

There are many types of mobile suits in the Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans series. These mobile suits are classified by their frame, which can be considered their skeleton. The armor just goes on top of the frame, giving them different appearences. The mobile suit in the first image, is a gundam frame, one of the more rare frames, antique like, but very high above standard frames in terms of power. The mobule suit in the image below it has a Graze frame, it is mass produced, and more cheap than a Gundam frame for example. Other frames are in the series, and they all vary from one another in terms of rarity and power. However, it is noted that Gundam frames are always present in times of huge change, saying that they bring the change where ever they are.
